Since 2004, Elizabeth has given over a hundred readings, interviews, and talks, and is a warm, engaging reader and story teller. When Implosion was released in 2018, Elizabeth hit the road and gave over twenty book talks in bookstores and libraries in NYC, Boston, Maine, Cincinnati and Indiana. When Sailing at the Edge of Disaster is released, she will give both in-person and Zoom talks, conversations, and readings. Elizabeth Garber will give a Zoom talk from the Roycroft Campus Corporation in East Aurora, New York, titled “The Life of Miriam Elberta Hubbard: Elbert and Alice Hubbard’s Love Child.” Elizabeth’s great grandfather Elbert Hubbard started the Roycroft Arts and Crafts Community in 1895. Elizabeth is in the process of researching and writing a novel about her grandmother’s life, growing up as an illegitimate child at the beginning of the 20th century. Elizabeth Garber will give a talk at the Roycroft Campus Corporation in East Aurora, New York, titled “The Life of Miriam Elberta Hubbard: Elbert and Alice Hubbard’s Love Child.”  

After years of scandal and front page coverage in papers across the country, in January 1904, Elbert and Alice were finally free to marry and with 9 year old Miriam, they moved to the Roycroft Arts and Crafts Community. This talk will focus on Miriam’s life in the years before, her youth at the Roycroft, and what happened when she was suddenly orphaned at age 20. Based on biographies of her parents, Roycroft and family photos, newspaper articles, letters, Miriam’s unpublished papers, and family stories, Elizabeth Garber, one of Miriam’s grandchildren, explores what Miriam’s life was like, in and out of the public spotlight.

If you enjoy architectural history, this class with explore the buildings of the two most significant architects of the 20th century in Cincinnati, F.W. Garber and Woodie Garber. This class is based on a series of architectural talks that Elizabeth gave at the Cincinnati Public Library, The Mercantile Library, and the Glendale Historical Preservationist Society. Elizabeth will also share about growing up as a student of Modernism, learning about the work of Swiss-French architect Le Corbusier and the Italian-American sculptor Harry Bertoia.
